Microblading Licensing In New Zealand

Before offering microblading, confirm the requirements for your services and premises with the local council. This guide helps you prepare that enquiry; it is not an approval to start trading.

Explain the services and location

Describe the actual microblading service when contacting the council. A business name such as brow salon does not explain every treatment you offer. Ask whether adding microblading changes an existing premises approval.

Prepare your questions before spending on a fit-out

Prepare details of your treatment room, equipment and pigment arrangements, sharps disposal and client documentation. Ask which training records or procedures the council wants to review, and confirm the requirements before you advertise appointments.

Request the current application process, fees, inspection arrangements and any renewal requirements in writing. Keep the council response with your business records and check again if you move premises or add a service.

Use local rules, not a nationwide checklist

Auckland has a Health and Hygiene Bylaw covering specified services. Its requirements should not be assumed to apply unchanged elsewhere. Ask your own council for the rules currently in force and whether any changes are scheduled.

Separate business structure from service approval

Keep training evidence in context

Keep your course and assessment records, but ask the authority what evidence it accepts. A training certificate does not itself grant a premises licence or confirm that every proposed service is authorised.
