How to start learning body piercing in New Zealand
Plan your study, practical support and workplace preparation together. Online lessons are one part of that pathway; completing them is not a shortcut around practical assessment or local requirements.
- Study the foundations. Work through consultation, jewellery knowledge, equipment and hygiene alongside the assigned practical topics. The full body piercing course includes the separate online Bloodborne Pathogens course. Each course has its own completion requirements and certificate. Use the piercing curriculum outline to organise your questions.
- Rehearse, submit and review. Begin the assigned model exercises with suitable silicone practice models. Keep clear photographs and notes, submit the evidence requested for that lesson and use tutor feedback to guide your next attempt. For work on a person, follow the handbook's consent, permission and competent-supervision requirements; a model result alone does not establish readiness for clients.
- Plan practical support. The New Zealand in-person piercing course combines online preparation with two days of practical training. Ask which lessons to complete beforehand and confirm the trainer, venue, dates and equipment option before booking or travelling.
- Check the workplace separately. Review the New Zealand piercing requirements guide, then confirm the requirements for your proposed premises and services with the relevant local authority and your insurer. Keep those checks separate from course completion.
